There’s quite a mystique surrounding Herend Porcelain that started centuries ago. Founded in 1826 in Hungary, Herend porcelain is so special and refined that it was gifted to HRH the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as a wedding gift.
There’s actually nothing new about Royals dining off Herend as it is acknowledged as some of the world’s finest dinnerware. Many of its classic patterns are still in production and it is prized as a work of art for your dining table.
Many Herend devotees consider The Rothschild Bird pattern, created in 1860 for the Rothschild family of Europe, to be the epitome of hand painting on porcelain. Twelve different motifs portray a 19th century tale about Baroness Rothschild, who lost her pearl necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. Several days later it was found by her gardener, who saw birds playing with it in a tree.
